It appears I have finally gotten over my reading slump!
All it took was finding a good book I could get into and making the time to read it.
Book 1: Push by Sapphire.
I have never seen the movie Precious, but this is the book that the movie was based on. My girl Rolana sent this to me at least 6 months ago and I put it away and it got lost on my bookshelf until last week. The book is an easy read however it is graphic, somewhat shocking and upsetting. It is a fictional story of a teenage girl who is sexually abused by both her mother and father, producing two children by the time she is 15 or 16 (fathered by her own father), but wants to rise above it all.
Book 2: The Doctor’s Wife by Elizabeth Brundage
This one was another really quick read, a psychological thriller. The story takes place in a small conservative community outside Albany, NY and is about a twisted connection between a local Dr, his wife, a famous local painter and the painter’s wife. Some of the storyline
includes abortion, affairs and a kidnapping. Very suspenseful!
Isn’t it magical to escape into another world through a pages of a book? That first one sounds like an intense read. Good for you for doing something for yourself like that. Sounds like fun! I just finished reading Broken (quite good) and have tried to get into Flawless (which I hear is great), but I haven’t been able to get into yet. So, I keep putting it down in favor of magazines! Maybe next week. :) I’ve never heard of the book you’re planning to read next. Will have to look it up.

I watched the movie version of Precious and I liked it. I thought that it was really well done. I’m not sure if I’d want to read the book, though!

PUSH was one of the hardest books I’ve ever read because of the content. At times, I had to stop reading just because what was happening to Precious upset me so much. The movie was very good though. I’m glad you enjoyed the Doctor’s Wife, it was a quick read for me too. I couldn’t put it down. I’m reading Mennonite In A Little Black Dress right now. It’s a memoir and it’s laugh out loud funny.

I agree, that Push was shocking and upsetting. I have yet to see the movie. I may have to check out a Drs Wife. I just finished The Spellmans Strike Again, which was great, I love that series, and Less Than Zero, a very different read for me. I don’t know if I liked it or not.
