So yes, I have been in a funk.

I was feeling slightly better after catching up on sleep and taking it easy this past weekend.

Then I get word Monday morning (yesterday) that my Gramps had another stroke (the first was a few months ago) and was in the Mayo in Scottsdale near where he lives.  There is nothing worse than that helpless feeling, and being far away from him and many of my family members.  After fearing the worst all day (it didn’t sound good) I was encouraged to hear that Gramps was conscious last night and was visiting with my aunt and Gram whom passed on his message that he loved all of us.

I am trying to be strong but the truth is that I am very sad.  I haven’t had to deal with death of those close to me very often. I can be an emotional wreck at times.

I have also been very sad lately because my cat Dusty, is also on his death bed.  He is 16 1/2 years old and has gone from 12lbs to just 6lbs in a matter of months.  He has a bad tooth and is now eating only soft foods.  I have to make sure it is all mushy before I feed him.  I swear he is hanging on just for me, he loves me that much.  There has never been a more loyal cat in the history of time.  Anyone who has seen me with Dusty can testify this is true.

Dumb as it must sound, I see a lot of parallels between Dusty and my Gramps.  I am already mourning the loss of both of them, premature as it may be.  Getting my mind set to let go when the time comes.

I really wish I were in Arizona right now.

Several other major disappointments lately have not helped to improve morale but I am hanging in there.  Shake it off and move forward.

Sorry for the Debbie Downer blog post

Thanks for any positivity that you can send my way!

Thanks for reading, have a great day ;)

  1. Hang in there Kristi. We prepared for my grandpa’s death for years, he hung on like a trooper. When it finally happened, it didn’t make it any easier. It’s really hard to lose a loved one. We just have to keep faith that he’s going to recover and stick with us for longer.

And so sorry about Dusty. That’s no fun either. Even though Friz was a bastard, it was still really sad when he had to go. We still actually miss the dumb cat.

Let me know if you need anything.

  2. Sorry to hear all of it this news kristi. When it rains it pours and just try to keep your chin up. I’ll be thinking of you and your family, gramps and dusty. I just lost my gramma so I know what you’re going through and how you feel.

  4. No apologies necessary. You have a lot going on, Kristie, and I think it’s great to share and put it out there. I’m so sorry to hear about your boys … both Dusty and your grandpa. It’s nature, but it doesn’t mean it’s easy to accept or deal with. That’s tough. You know I’m in Arizona. So, if there’s anything I can do, let me know. I can run up to Scottsdale and deliver a meal or flowers or something for you. :) I know it’s hard to be so far away when trouble strikes the people you love. It’s a very helpless feeling. I hope Dusty is comfortable, at least, and that the two of you can find some snuggly, happy time at the sunset of his time with you. I can’t imagine what that whole process must be like. I’m so sorry honey. Keep us posted.

  5. I’m so sorry to hear about all of the Kristi. Death is never easy to deal with – we all know that. I hope you find strength in those around you and lean on them for support. Remember, it’s okay to cry!

  6. I’m so sorry that you’re feeling crummy! I know that feeling all too well. My own Grandfather isn’t doing too well right now (he has Melanoma and the prognosis is not good). I lost my other Grandfather last fall. No matter how you slice it, it just plain old SUCKS.

Is the weather at least improving for you? Here in Boston, we’ve had sunshine two days in a row and it’s done wonders for my spirits.

    Here’s a joke for you:

How do you get a tissue to dance?
You put a little boogie in it!
