Okay, so even though we have known for a few months what we are planning to name our little guy, for whatever reason I have been reluctant to spill the beans on the internet.  However, see me in person and I can’t wait to share! Weird, I know.  All in good time, my friends.  I will reveal baby boy’s name soon, but before I do, I would love to know how you decided what to name your children and how long did you have the names picked out in advance? Or did you wait to meet your little one before naming him/her??  Traditional or Trendy?? Unique or common??? Names are such a BFD, they are with us for a lifetime!

  1. We had our names picked out before we found out what we were having. So once that ultrasound confirmed gender, we started calling that little thing by their name. We chose our names based on whether or not we agreed on them LOL! Each child got a piece of us too, Annika got my middle name for her middle name, Bianca’s middle name is my first name and Bennett got Bri’s middle name for his. I would say our names are unique.

  2. We both made a list of ten names by X date and reviewed our lists on that date. Believe it or not we ended up having about five that matched. We brought those five to the hospital and named the boys as soon as we met them. I’m super glad we had backups since the name I loved would have never went with either of the boys.

  3. We each went through the baby name book and marked our favorites. We had talked about it a ton, and so there wasn’t much need for matching our lists up, but I did use the Social Security website to eliminate names that were too common. Eldest (Garrett) named for both grandfathers, middle (Evan) and youngest (Spencer) are named in honor of famous people I admire with family names for middle names. I was told once that my kids had names that made them sound like British royalty. I am ok with that, but I am pretty sure the guy who said it did NOT mean it as a compliment. LOL

  4. Before we found out what we were having we did the list thing and many vetoes. We always knew if we had a girl we would honor Ty’s mother who passed, Sue. Honestly, Evie just came to me. I told my mother a few days before she was born what her name was but other than that, nobody else knew. We kept it for ourselves but we knew for awhile. We would call her our little Escape Button (her initial are ESC) hence the nickname, Button!

  5. I’m going to chime in even though I don’t have kids and never plan to. I think it would be so hard to name someone as they will have that name for their entire life. What if you got sick of it? Even though I’ve never wanted kids, I have names for both a boy and girl that is a combination of what I’ve picked and what Michael has picked. Boy: Shade Phoenix. Girl: Sydney January.
