One night during the last week of April, Bradie and I went to Barbette in Uptown for dinner.  We had a great time hanging out, as we always do when we’re together.  For those of you who do not know Bradie, she and I grew up in the same neighborhood and we have been friends since we were 2 or 3 years old.  We also roomed together in the dorms during our freshman year of college.  It kind of goes without saying but we have been through a LOT together in the past 32 years and she is still one of my closest friends.

Anyway, after dinner we were joined by another life-long friend of ours, Chelsea, and her fiance Aaron, to whom she just got engaged.  Bradie’s mom and Chelsea’s mom were BFFs growing up and the two of them have known each other since before they were even born.  Therefore, I have known Chelsea nearly as long as I have known Bradie!  It was so nice to catch up with her and meet Aaron (who coincidentally grew up not far from where I now live!)

I wanted to share a few photos taken that night.  You can also read about our dinner at Barbette.

A few weeks ago I went out to dinner with our little group in celebration of Kim’s birthday.  We went to Rudy’s Redeye Grill, an old favorite of everyone.  The food was good but the service was slower than ever, I will be posting a new review of Rudy’s when I can get to it.  After dinner we briefly stopped at a local bar to hear a band but it was super hot inside so we all just decided to head home early.  It was nice to see everyone and spend time together… its been too long.

Okay, so I took your advice and called Art of Beauty about the  Zoya polishes that ruined my nails.  They told me they have never had a complaint about anyone’s nails peeling before and are stumped about what ingredient is in the polish that could do this to my nails.

I paid $62 for the polishes (including shipping) and they said they would take back any that I have not yet used but charge me a 30% re-stock fee after I pay to ship them back.  So the refund would only be $33 minus cost of shipping them back.  I decided that was not an acceptable offer so I am not going to send them back.

The customer representative at Zoya is sending me a 1 oz bottle of the Zoya polish remover to try.  I am pretty sure my polish remover is Formaldehyde-free but it is possible that it was the remover that did the damage to my nails and not the polish?????

I have been on a self-imposed buying freeze for the past 3 1/2 years.  I do not spend money on anything frivolous, with the exception of food.  I quit buying clothes, traveling, scrapbook materials, DVDs, books, etc.

Why is this a big deal?

Because about a month ago, I shelled out $62 and bought 12 bottles of Zoya nail polish on sale.

Certain friends of mine had been raving about how great Zoya and on a whim, I took the plunge and bought a shit-ton of the stuff.

This was the first purchase for myself that I can remember in at least six months and I deeply regret it.  Not because I couldn’t afford the $62 but because the stuff isn’t any better than any other polish as far as how long it lasts and IT RUINED MY NAILS!!!!

Over the course of three weeks I had my nails painted five different times. The polish (without topcoat) lasted one day before it started chipping and only three days with two coats of top coat. WTF is so special about that??????????? It took forever to dry and it didn’t go on any better than any other polish I have ever used and it certainly didn’t have any extra lasting powers.
The thing that makes me most mad is that my nails started PEELING in layers after using this crap!!!! This has NEVER happened to me before I used Zoya so logical deduction tells me that it is Zoya’s fault.

I don’t plan to use this polish on my fingers ever again. If I hadn’t spent so much money on it I would throw it in the garbage.  So pissed!!!!!!!!

About a month ago I was contacted by a lovely painter from Canada named Linda Wilder.  She had come across my Restaurant Blog photos and was interested in using them as a “reference” point for some of her paintings.  How could I say no to that??!! I told her I would love to see any of the paintings she has created based on my photos and she has already sent me two.

Here is one of my photos, followed by the painting created by Linda Wilder

Cool, right??!!!  They are not copies, just inspiration.

Here is another

Howdy! Here I am finding myself with about seven minutes to blog before I have to leave for work and I wanted to get these pictures of my nephew’s 4th birthday up before he turns five! lol

Can you believe how fast the past four years has gone???!! Most of you reading this blog now were reading it then, too and may remember that he was born a month premature (just like me!) and had to spend his first few weeks in the hospital. This year Bennett got a ton of cool toys for his birthday as well as an awesome new bike. We got him a transformers Optimus Prime costume and some wacky animal figurines with inter-changeable parts (think Mr Potato Head).  Overall, he was one happy dude ;)

These trick candles on his cake were pretty funny to watch him try to blow out. ha ha!  The cake was from movie CARS.

Ugg. Don’t you hate it when you have eight million things going on and you just don’t have time for it all?? I feel that way nearly every day of my life.  So much to do, so little time.  Here we are on March 22 and there are so many things I would like to blog about from the past couple of months, but the truth is I often don’t have time to do the things that won’t make me money. lol.  Sad, right? Rather than blogging here, when I do have the time, I am usually writing restaurant reviews at Twin Cities Restaurant Blog.  It’s all good, I will be back when I can and update a little better.

I hope everyone is doing well, I haven’t been reading any blogs for weeks now.  I miss ya’ll!
