Feast your eyes on my pretties….soon to be in my mailbox and then on my toes :)

I had several additional colors in my cart but since the deal was Buy 3, Get 3 Free, I put several of them back.

I feel fully justified spending $30 on brand-name nail polish, especially considering I do my own pedicures every two weeks.  Ang has hyped this stuff up for years and once she posted on Facebook about the B3G3F, I couldn’t resist.  This will be my first time trying any Zoya polish, I have high expectations.  I will let ya’ll know what I think ;)

Hey ya’ll,  it has been a very busy week at work (what else is new, right?!) and I haven’t had a chance to blog as much as I have wanted.

In my absence I would like to direct you to my little brother Jeff’s Blog, where he has recently posted about his trip to Prague at Christmas and about his upcoming honeymoon to Mauritius.  Make sure to read it if you’re interested in learning how you can book a series of flights for two  normally priced at $$8,698 per ticket for just $500.

I have mentioned before how my guy and I like to go on leisurely drives sometimes, and this weekend we did just that!
First we went to Twin City Reptile where we looked at many cool little animals. Using Instagram on my iPhone was the perfect way of capturing so many :)

After we drove southwest to Richfield to A World of Fish. Took some video footage and made an iMovie directly from my phone!

We kept driving and ended up in New Prague (70 miles from home) around dinnertime where we stopped at Fishtale Grill for a very yummy meal.
It was fun!

Happy Thursday, my dear internet friends.

I have a somewhat depressing topic to talk about today that involves death.  A few years back I blogged a Thoughts for Thursday about Dying Young and I guess this is somewhat of an extension.

After the recent death of my friend’s mother, I have really been thinking a lot about death, the cost involved and final wishes.

Did you know that most funeral/burials will cost anywhere from $7,000-10k? Cremation isn’t much cheaper.

That is why it is so extremely important to have LIFE INSURANCE! Life Insurance is not just so your family can survive financially if you die.  It is also meant to help pay for funeral costs. It is my opinion that everyone should have life insurance, regardless of age. I also think people need to make it known what their final wishes are.

My dad has made his wish to be cremated pretty clear but I have no idea what my mom would want for her funeral.  I know they have life insurance and I am sure they have a will, but I have never seen it or discussed it with them.  It is one of those things that most people just don’t talk of very often.  After recent events I feel that it is important to have this out in the open.

Have you had this discussion with your parents or other loved ones? Do you know of their final wishes? Do you know where to locate important documents just in case??? Are you and your significant other covered by life insurance?? What about your children???? Horrible to think about, I know, but who wants to be stuck with a $10k bill at the saddest time of their life?! Not me!

I encourage you to think about these things before the time comes :)

It started sleeting last night around 5pm and then started snowing around 10pm and then it snowed all night! I woke up this morning to at least 4″ and it is supposed to keep snowing all day. Normally this wouldn’t be a big deal in Minnesnowta, however this is our first significant snowfall of the 2011-12 winter season.  On Feb 29!!  Until now it has been unusually brown around here.

An Instagram photo from this morning’s commute…..

I think it is snowy nearly everywhere in the US today, how about where you live??!!

Please forgive my absence the past few weeks.  I had a lovely birthday on Feb 11 followed by a wonderful Valentine’s day (which I hope to still blog about!) and then things rapidly started to go downhill.

  • Things have been crazy and overwhelming at work.  On top of my teaching duties, I have hours and hours worth of administration duties to attend to during the month of February and no extra time to do it.  Everything has been on a very short time-frame.
  • Crazy times at work WHILE teaching four back-to-back classes of Kindergarten.  Ooof dah
  • I woke up barfing my brains out in the middle of the night one night (Feb 16) and had to miss two days of work at a very critical time.  To top it off, the lesson plans I spent an hour preparing at 5am did  not get attached to the e-mail I sent my secretary so my Guest Teacher had no idea what to do.  My boss was super pissed.  Not good
  • Menstruation and cramps from hell.  No need to elaborate but it really sucked in more ways than one
  • The worst of all of this is that my dear Noemy’s mother passed away last Saturday.  She was only 60 years old which is just too young.  She had been in ICU for three weeks at that point but had started to look like she was going to make a recovery.  We still aren’t sure what happened, it may have been another heart attack but everyone was completely devastated by her death, no one more so than Noemy.  Her mom meant the world to her and vice versa and they were very, very close.  Noemy was the most faithful during her mom’s time of need…. she only left her at the hospital to come home and sleep.  By “home” I mean at my next door neighbor’s house, Darrell and Denise (since Noemy lives at Fort Irwin in California).  I was giving her rides to the hospital every day and have spent time with her every day for the past month.
  • Noemy’s husband and her 3 boys came out to MN on Monday and will be here through this Saturday. Her mom’s wake was last Thursday night and the funeral was on Friday (yes, I had to take another day off). Both were very sad but special in their own way and I am so glad that we have been there for our dear friend.

So that is what I have been going through the past few weeks but the worst of it is now over and brighter days are ahead!

Thanks for reading, have a great day ;)

I wrote a couple of Valentine Haikus for my Sweetie last year, and I thought I would give another attempt at writing extremely cheesy poetry :)

My Dearest Valentine
Do you know how much I love you?
I love you more than Ice Cream
I love you more than Sunshine
I love you more than more than Puppies and Kittens
I love you more than Rainbows
I love you more than Thunderstorms
I love you more than The Ocean
I love you more than the Mountains
I love you more than Sushi

Its been way too long since I posted by the bullets.  Lets see what happens today, shall we?!

  • The stomach flu is going around my school.  I wasn’t feeling good all morning yesterday and by lunch time, I was tossing my cookies into the garbage.  Went home shortly after and spent the rest of the afternoon on my sofa and felt better within a few hours.  Not sure if I had the flu or if something else is going on??!!
  • Noemy is still in town.  She had a very tough time in the 10 days she has been here… her mom is still very sick in the ICU, her dad was also admitted to the hospital all of last weekend for chest pains.  To top it all off, one of her cousins died last week (her mom’s nephew) so she had to attend the funeral while here.  This family has suffered so much.
  • Tomorrow is my birthday and let me tell you, 35 sounds WAY older than it feels!!! No big plans but will likely have dinner out with my guy
  • Tomorrow is also the District Spelling Bee, so I will be there cheering on my two students.  It takes place at Como Park Zoo so I will probably spend some time at the zoo by myself afterward.
  • My school collected over $1600 for Pennies for Patients.  These kids are very poor yet still incredibly generous!!!
  • I am currently reading the book, Loving Frank.  It is about the long-time affair of Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Cheney
  • I had much more to blog about and now all previous thoughts have left me.  I hate it when that happens!!
Thanks for reading, have a great day ;)

I have been craving fruit lately. The top of my list right now? Bananas. 100% real bananas, none of that nasty fake banana flavoring!

Maybe because I have been eating some amazing banana desserts lately…..

Best fritter I’ve ever had ;)

I only had a few bites of this but it was bananalicious.

Oh, what I wouldn’t give for some of this Deep Fried Banana split right now!!

I might have to bake some Banana Bread this weekend….

Ice cream and bananas?? Good God, yes.  Especially Banana Pudding Ice Cream like this from Homesick Texan

I found some delicious looking banana dishes on Pinterest too, maybe I will make one of these?

Yum!!! Which one would you like to eat right now???!!!

I blogged a few weeks ago about how I often stop and take photos of the sunrise on my way to work.  I have stopped a few times since then.  When I say “stopped”, that is actually an incorrect statement.  What I do is I take a street over to the lake and drive about a mile around the lake, taking photos out of my car window when I find a good shot.  I usually take several from different places along that mile-stretch of the lake.

Which is why I find it funny that these two photos were taken from the exact same spot about two weeks apart!
Here is the one from the other day…

And the photo from 2-3 weeks ago.  It is the EXACT same spot, check out the framing of the trees!!! lol

I must be a creature of habit more than I think! lol

Going to brunch has been my new thing lately.  I went to Kozlak’s for brunch with my parents in January and met a group of my high school girlfriends and some of their kids for brunch last Sunday at Girvan Grille. It was fun! The buffet was super cheap but good ($10 for adults and $5 for kids)

A few weeks ago when I blogged about Collections, I mentioned I collect Dichroic Glass Pendants.  I took a couple of pictures of some of my pieces to show you.  I have collected these for about six years now and I try to find a new piece whenever I travel.  Pieces have come from artists in Chicago, Las Vegas, Austin Tx and Boulder, Co as well as a number of artists who live in Minnesota.  A couple of these are also mass-produced pieces that were found at the Mall (I don’t like those nearly as much!)

I know that if I ever get on Etsy I will have approximately 189 of these pendants but since I do not spend money, I won’t even attempt myself by looking.  “The only problem with resisting temptation is you never know if you’ll get another chance”. Ha!

My dear friend Noemy is in town right now, but she is most certainly not here on vacation.  Rather, her mother suffered a massive heart attack this past Sunday and Noemy was fortunate enough to be able to fly up here to MN (from her home in California) to be with her mom.  She is still in the ICU and could use many prayers.

I spent some time with Noemy at the hospital last night and we were beyond relieved when her mom opened her eyes for the first time in three days and was able to respond to a few simple commands.  That is progress but she has a long road ahead.

Get well soon, Virginia.  You have many friends and family who love and need you!
