Happy Birthday today to my BFF Lanee Valentina!
How cool would it be to have your bday on Valentine's Day?  Sonja planned a little surprise party for Lanee last night and I was able to go hang out with my girls for awhile and be there to surprise Lanee before having to leave to go to a concert.
A few photos:

Happy Birthday Lanee, I hope your birthday is wonderful :)

My birthday yesterday was really great!  I felt the love coming at me from all directions and when that happens, it is pretty hard not to enjoy it.  Thanks to everyone who sent wishes and warm fuzzies throughout the day.  It was especially a surprise to see so many people write on my wall on Facebook.  There may have been over a hundred wishes. Whoa!
I have been very busy at work with several things but was able to take a longer lunch to met up with my BFFs for lunch.  Sonja, Angelina, Leah and Kim treated me to a really awesome lunch at Bennett's (I will link to the review as soon as I can get to it).  I also got a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Sony.  It was awesome that Kimmy was feeling good enough to come meet us…. she id due to have her baby literall any day now.  I was hoping for a birthday surprise but this little guy is still a cookin'.  The girls all plead with me not to take any photos of them, but I told them they had to.

Angelina was willing to pose with me!

In the evening it started to snow a little and the temps dropped so the roads weren't in the best shape so rather than driving to Minneapolis to try something new, I decided to go to one of my old-time favorte places, the Lakeside Club.  I had a delicious steak and for dessert I got a chocolate fudge parfait.  Wow!
So yeah, I am feeling pretty fabulous at 32 :)

The hot mama I'm talking about is my BFF Kim, who is just entering her last month of her first pregnancy.
IMG_3326
Lucky girl, the only weight she has gained is baby belly ;)
Anyway, last Sunday my other BFFs (Mary, Sonja and Lanee) and I threw a little shower for her.  What a  nice time! Here are a few pictures.  You can see more on Kim's post about the baby shower.

A bunch of Kim's friends she hasn't seen in awhile all came so we ate, talked, watched Kim open her presents and also played some games.  One of the games we played was matching celebrities a list of baby names to their celebrity parents.  A few of the girls knew their celebrities so well that they didn't even need to look at the parents' names! (I am terrible at this game because I rarely pay attention to celebrities). Would you like to see how well you do?? Here is the list of baby names:

a. Apple
b. Harlow Winter
c. Prince
d. Chastity
e. Suri
f. Rumer
g. Ryder
h. Rocco
i. Willow
j. Pilot Inspektor
k. Chelsea Belle
l. Ireland
m. Jett
n. Shiloh
o. Coco

And if you need some help, here is the list of celebrity parents:

1. Kim Basinger/Alec Baldwin
2. Cher/ Sonny Bono
3. Courtney Cox/ David Arquette
4. John Travolta/ Kelly Preston
5. Michael Jackson
6. Jason Lee
7. Rose O’ Donnell
8. Brad Pitt/ Angelina Jolie
9. Nicole Richie/ Joel Madden
10. Tom Cruise/ Katie Holmes
11. Madonna/Guy Richie
12. Will Smith/Jada Pinkett
13. Gwyneth Paltrow
14. Bruce Willis/Demi Moore
15. Kate Hudson/ Chris Robinson

Had fun on Friday night when a  big group of us got together at La Casita to celebrate Sonja's (and Cynthia's) 30th birthdays.  I only took a couple of photos:

Found a  couple old pictures of me on Halloween in past years, thought I'd post a few…..
I was about 3 years old on this Halloween, dressed as a gypsy.  See the terrible look on my face? If I remember correctly, I got sick with the flu later this same night and puked my brains out!! LOL

Here I am as Bat Girl

Not sure if this was Halloween or not, but I was dressed up in one of my dad's suit coats & tie! LOL

I am pretty sure I did NOT dress up between ages 12-19, so fast forward to college years! I am the farmer on the right side.  I am so embarrassed about the stupid cigs I used to smoke back in the day (GROSS! PS Its been over 8 years since I have touched a stinkarette)

We had our monthly BFF dinner this past Friday night at Mary's.  (These nights are always special to us and this is the first time in awhile that we were all able to make it).  Our theme of the evening was homemade mini-pizzas…so easy and yummy!  We always decide what to have ahead of time and each of us brings something to contribute.  We were going to try beergaritas, but ended up making regular margaritas instead…. I guess I'll have to try them another time and report back!
We had no kids or guys with us this time, so we had to use the self-timer on the camera to take a group shot  We were finally satisfied with the 10th take ;)

Kim, Mary, Lanee, Sonja and Me (In Mary's gorgeous kitchen that she designed herself)

IMG_1320

I didn't take photos of the pizza (I think Kim did, hopefully she'll post one on her blog.)  I did get one of the ice cream cake that Lanee made.  Muy deliciosa!

After dinner I had to head home so that I could finalize the wedding video for Darrell and Denise.  Denise stayed up with me until the video was finished around 1am (yes, the night before her wedding!).
The wedding was beautiful and a really fun time.  I'll be back tomorrow with photos :)

Sonja hosted a small-scale Girls Night at her place on Friday (not everyone could make it).  We hung out and had dinner (Sony made Tortellini Alfredo with Chicken, Mushrooms, Peas and Turkey Ham- Geez, listen to me- can you tell I write restaurant reviews or what!!?? LOL) Besides eating a ton of good food, we were excited to see Kim's ultrasound pictures, as she had come straight from having her first ultrasound.  I made her pose for this first photo of her and the baby….

Sonja's daughter Angelina is such a funny kid, she cracks me up! When it was bedtime she had to show off her pajamas (Hey Helmey-do you see the Olympics on the TV in the background there? Proof that I am not a Communist after all!)

Thats all for now…..

Kim and Brent threw a BBQ/bonfire at their place on Sunday night, so once I knew that my house was still standing after the tornado came through, I went straight over there from Jeff's house.
It was a fun time (although I was somewhat preoccupied because of the tornado.  I might've spent as much time answering calls and texts as I did talking with my best friends.)
Early in the evening…..

A small group of us went to Sakura for a delicious sushi dinner on Saturday night to celebrate Sonja’s birthday.  This place was awesome!

Sakura1107_019_2

I only took a few photos during the night, (mostly of the food so I can write up a review), but here are some of the group….. Sakura1107_010

Sakura1107_015

Sakura1107_024

Sakura1107_027 I was also surprised later in the evening when a former very close friend of mine joined our party.  We had not seen nor spoken with one another in nearly 9 years.  A little awkward, if ya kwim.  My neighbor and his buddy came out to join us too, so that was cool.  Too bad some of our key-girlfriends couldn’t make it for the evening.  It just isn’t the same without their presence :(   I had a pretty decent time, but I couldn’t be as fun as usual because I  was sober-cab for the evening. I’m not a big drinker, but on the rare occasion that I get to go out, I do like to have a drink or two.  I just never do it if I have to drive.

So I am off to Target to run some errands and get my haircut.  I need bangs.  I have been hating my hair so much, pretty much since I had it done last….I just need to do something else with it!
Headed to Brian and Michelle’s later for dinner.  Can’t wait, Michelle is making her famous calzones!

I am putting a twist on the "7random" post that everyone is doing these days.  Since it took so long to get to this post after being tagged by a million people, I am going to go all out and tell ya seven adventures I’ve had that were pretty scary at the time….

1.  Once in the middle of winter when I was 16 years old, my friend Amy and I went out with our friends, Keith and Eric.  She had a 12 am curfew and lived on the opposite side of the lake from where we happened to be and we only had about 5 minutes to make her curfew. We were near a boat launch and Keith got this great idea that we would "take a short cut" across the lake….in the car!  I thought he was kidding until we found ourselves on the ice.  We got about half way across the lake when the piece of crap car keith was driving got STUCK in the snow.  Like majorly STUCK.   It was freezing A$$ out, this was before the days of cell phones, and we were SOL.  We tried rocking that dang car to get it unstuck, but no such luck.  We walked around the lake, knocking on fish shacks to see if anyone was around to help us.  No luck.  We knew we were in trouble in more ways than one.  About 30-45 minutes after we got out on the lake, a miracle happened.  A huge truck happened to appear about 1/4 mile away…we were able to flag the fishermen who were driving it down and they somehow helped us get unstuck.  We made it back to Amy’s house over an hour late, frozen to the bone.  Thank GOD she had a huge hot tub that we could all warm up in.  I have been terrified to drive out ont he ice ever since then.  How stupid was that idea!!!?? Do you remember that Keith? I know you’re reading :)

2.  Speaking of Keith, we used to hang out and get in all sorts of adventures together…. how about another time when we were 16…..the entire Sauer clan (that means all the aunts, uncles and cousins) stayed at the Embassy Suites downtown St Paul for a family get together.  The weekend we were staying there also happned to be right before my 16th birthday and was taking place during the St Paul Winter Carnival, so my dad let me invite a few friends to come hang out at the hotel pool, etc.  There were at least a million people staying in the hotel that weekend, including the entire Winter Carnival Royalty.  To make a long story short, my friends Keith, Amy and Eric were sitting in the sauna and I was just about to go in the sauna too.  Well keith was just messing around "pretending" he was going to punch the little glass window in the sauna door.  Unfortunately he slipped on some water that was right in front of the door and put his fist right through, with me standing right in front of the door on the other side.  Not only did Keith cut the fu*k out of his entire hand, I had pieces of glass embedded in my face and all over my chest and stomach and arms, each with trickles of blood flowing down my body.  It must’ve looked really bad! I didn’t dare move for risk of cutting my feet up on the glass that was everywhere, so i stood there until help could come clean the glass up.  The hotel managment thought I was one of the carnival princesses and was tring to find my "chaperone".  Moral of that story…don’t ever even pretend to put your fist through a window because it really sucks when it happens!

3.  One year while on spring break in Cancun, my friends Kim, Katy and Laura and I went on an excursion called the Jungle Tour.  They put us on these old-school (like 20 years old) giant 2-person jetskis that we would drive across the ocean to a coral reef where we would then snorkle.  So I am driving the machine and Kim is on the back of it with me.  I had never driven one of these effin things before and it happened to be a very windy day and the swells were like 4 feet high.  Every time we would gain speed we would crash into a wave and go all slow again.  Well this was a pretty scary experience…..we were with a guided group, but ended up being very far behind the rest, to the point that we couldn’t see them anymore.  So we are trying to catch up and I am holding on the the steering wheel for dear life because there was NO WAY I was trying to fall off in the middle of the ocean.  So we hit the biggest wave ever and then the jetski suddenly stopped.  I was like, omg kim, that was scary.  Then I realized Kim was no longer behind me.  OMG, where is KIM???? KIMMY!!! I am in the middle of the ocean, waves 4 feet high and I cannot see my best friend anywhere.  The killswitch had been attached to her so when she fell off, the jetski killed.  I was stuck and could not go anywhere, just bouncing in the waves looking for Kim, hoping I would find her before the hungry sharks did.  I saw her head bouncing up and down about 50 yards away, but I could not paddle the large jetski in the waves with just my arms.  It was terrifying for me, imagine how Kim felt! Finally I got to her.  We ended up waiting on the jetski until the tour guide realized we were missing and had to come back looking for us.  This incident has caused a deep fear of large waves and small boats for me.  I haven’t ridden a jetski since and I will never again do so in the ocean.

4.  One time in 7th grade Bradie and I had the day off of school.  I had slept at her house the night before and in the morning since we had no school, we walked a block to my house so I could take a shower and get dressed, with the plans to hang out and enjoy our day off of school.  Unfortunately when we got to my house, all the doors were locked and no one was home.  So I did what we sometimes had to do in this situation….crawl through the basement window.  I let Bradie in the front door and then jumped in the shower.  5 minutes later Bradie come in the bathroom and was like, "The police are here".  But she says it in a non-dramatic way so I told her to shut up and get out of the bathroom!  A few minutes later she comes back in and says, "I am serious, krissy! The police are here and they want to talk to you.  So I quickly get dressed and find a couple fo officers standing in my house, letting me know the neighbors had called the police about a break-in.  They needed to verify that I did indeed live there.  Despite the fact that my picture was all over the house, they needed to call my parents, who were extremely hard to track down that day.  My dad had just started a new job and I didn’t know how to get ahold of him.  Finally they did and my dad verified I was indeed his daughter, that I was NOT skipping school.  But the whole thing pretty much sucked.  I don’t think I ever broke in that way again!

5.  Another story with Bradie…. One night when I was in 8th grade my parents went out for the night to the Whitney Houston concert, so I had some of my girlfriends over….Jessie, Jenny, Andrea and Amy were already at my house and Bradie and Chelsea were walking on their way over from Bradie’s house.  Before Bradie and Chelsea got to my house, there was a knock on my bedroom window.  I looked out and no one was there.  It wasn’t for about 5-10 minutes that Bradie and Chelsea showed up.  I was like" Thanks for knocking on the window, real funny!" Bradie swore that she didn’t do it, but I didn’t believe her because she liked to prank me every once in awhile.  So we were all hanging out for a few hours and then later Chelsea’s mom had to come pick her up.  We were all sitting in the living room watching out the picture window for Cheslea’s mom, when out of the bush on the side of the house come two men wearing all black with black ski masks on.  We screamed bloody murder and the men ran across the yard and scaled the fence.  Amy’s dad was a sheriff so she called him right away and he came over in his squad.  They combed the neighborhood but never found anyone.  Luckily he stayed until my parents came home late that night.  I was scared out of my mind for weeks!!!  A few weeks later some weird creepy kid who lived in my neighborhood called me out of the blue and confessed that he had been watching me in my back yard on several occasions and that it was him and a friend that night.

6. One time back when I was in college I went camping with Lanee, Kim, Sonja, Danielle and a few other friends.  We were at Willow River State Park in east central MN, a very secluded campground with very few other campers that weekend.  There weren’t any bathroom facilities anywhere, just a water pump an an outhouse several hundred feet from our campsite.  So late one night Lanee and I walked to the pump to brush our teeth before going to bed…it was pitch-black out and we had but a measley little flashlight with us.  We had just finished at the waterpump when we heard movement in the woods right next to us and then we a flash of something white- something big….I screamed bloody murder and then ran as fast as I could back to the campsite, Lanee following me.  I didn’t dare turn around to see what was chasing us, but I just knew it was either Bigfoot, a bear or worse…a psychopath who was lurking in the woods watching us (yes, I have a great imagination!).  Some of the guys went to investigate and saw a large patch of grass that had been matted down from whatever creature (probably just a deer) had been laying there.  I don’t know who was more scared, me or the deer, but its a miracle I didn’t PIMP!!!

7.  Speaking of PIMP, I will admit about the last time it ever happened to me.  I was a 7th grader and it was fall, so it was dark really early.  A week or two earlier, Jacob Wetterling, a boy who lived about an hour and a half north of the Twin Cities, was abducted while walking down the street with his brother and friend.  The thought of being kidnapped scared the crap outta me, and since they never found out who did it or ever found Jacob for that matter (still no word on him 18 years later), the kidnapper was still at large.  I was walking home from Bradie’s house with my friend Tracy, when a car that was driving behind us suddenly started slowing down, then stopped behind us.  As we walked a little further, the car would again move a little further then stop.  After this happened halfway down the block, Tracy and I just KNEW that is was the kidnapper and that he was coming to get us.  I was scared for my life as I ran through the backyards to get to my house.  And yes, I PIMP I was so scared.  Turns out our kidnapper was really just the evening newspaper delivery man, but he sure scared the piss out of me!!! Literally.

So there ya have it ;)  A few random adventures in the life of kristi.

I hope you enjoyed that…it took forever to type! LOL

Does that count as two days worth of posts or what??!!  Oh shoot, tomorrow is Thoughts for Thursday.  I’ll be back!

On Friday night Lanee & Rog had a BBQ gathering, in remembrance of Lanee & Sonja’s mom, and also in honor of Danielle’s return from Iraq.

Nebybbq8318

It was nice spending time with my BFF (all but Kimmy who couldn’t make it, but she was missed dearly); eating, talking, etc.  Here are the few pics I took that night.

Nebybbq83107_024bw

Besides hanging with my girls, my favorite part of the evening was looking through the photo album of pictures taken by and of Lanee & Sonja’s mom.  She was a photographer and had some amazing photos.  It was also fun to see pics of my girls when they were very little, and how much their mom loved them :)

Saturday turned out to be much nicer (weather-wise) than many of us had expected, given the cold dreary weather we had all of last week.  It was only about 50 degrees, but the sun was shining and the wind was mild….not too bad for an outdoor wedding! The wedding was short and sweet….Lanee & Sonja’s brother Matt played his guitar and sang them a couple of love songs.  It was so sweet!!! I also had a job during the ceremony…leading the guests in The Lord’s Prayer :)

Of course I have pictures to share, although I didn’t take nearly as many as I usually do….. (Kim, have you looked at yours yet??  Please send them to me!)

We stayed at the reception until it was over at midnight.  I had a lot of fun and I paid for it most of Sunday! L & R are leaving today for their honeymoon on Madeline Island :)

Have a great week!

On Sunday afternoon, my best friends and I threw a surprise bridal shower luncheon for Lanee (which is pronounced Lah-nay, not Lan-nee) at Mary's house.  Only it turned out not to be a surprise because Lanee figured out that we were up to something.  Or Sonja spilled the beans!? Oh well, it was still a great time!  We had a taco salad bar (thanks to Decoy's in WBL for making us the yummy shells) and spent most of the time chatting and eating. I realize I should have taken this picture before I mixed everything up in the salad…it looks kind of gross, but it was very good!

Laneeshower_007

Laneeshower_024

Check out the full album of bridal shower pics. I am really looking forward to our girls retreat (me, Lanee, Sonja, Kim and Mary..plus Lanee's cousin Olga) this coming weekend at Madeline, Island (Lake Superior).  Going to be a great bonding experience….I hope!!!! Aye, we have all been BFF since Jr. High and we have been through everything together.  As much as we all love each other, we don't always get along.  The five of us haven't all been together to spend time like this in a very long time, so this is going to be very special:)

After the shower, I drove up to my parents house for Sunday Dinner with Gram and Gramp.  They had all come at noon to watch the Vikes game on my dad's new big screen HD TV.  (The Vikings ended up winning in OT 16-13….E was at the game with a buddy, but I of course, did not see any of it being at the shower).

Laneeshower_034

Look at how big and adorable Annika is getting!  And Michelle looks wonderful for 20 weeks! We will hopefully know by the end of the week if the baby is a boy or a girl.  She and Brian leave for Maui on Friday morning…omg, how fun would it be to buy some baby Hawaiian clothes?! Annika would be so stinkin cute in a little hula outfit!

Laneeshower_032

Me and Jeffrey with Gram and Gramp. They head back to Scotsdale in just a few weeks.  I hope I can go down there to visit this coming year!

BFF.  Do any of you remember writing that in notes to your best friends back in Jr. High? I had many BFF back in the day but somehow these girls are the ones that have stuck around as my BFF ever since.  Mary, Kim, Sonja and Lanee.  We were all able to get together for dinner of Thursday with just a few days notice….Italian at Donatelli's Rest.

Donatellis_019

Its hard to believe that this was the first time us five girls were together all at once since Mary's wedding.  And that was four month ago now! We have all been busy with either work, school, wedding planning or babies.  I feel like I have missed so much with the babies in the past few months.  Chase and Angelina are almost 10 months old now! Our group has lots of birthday s in the next two months:Mariah (Dec 6), Roger (Jan 23) Mary's(Jan 30), Taylor (Feb 3), Mine (Feb 11th), Lanee's (Feb 14)Chase (Feb 15)and Angelina's (Feb 18).  We'll be seeing each other several times that month, as we usually celebrate all of the birthdays individually.  This is me with Sonja's baby, Angelina.  Her smile will absolutely melt your heart! Too bad she wouldn't smile in this pic…but at least she was looking!

Donatellis_009_1

This is Mary's baby Chase…not smiling for the camera either! Whats with these babies?? He has her big blue eyes!

Donatellis_005

And here is Kim with Taylor, Mary's daughter.  Taylor is great at hammin it up for the camera! These babies will learn a thing or teo from her in just a few short years, I am sure! lol

Donatellis_007

Here Lanee's got Angelina (her niece…she is Sonja's sister in case you didn't know!) and Kimmy is holding Chase. Its nearly impossible to get two babies that age to look at you and smile on cue.  Darn! I really wanted to get a good one of the two of them together.

Donatellis_018

It was nice to see my girls! I hope to make lots of plans with all my friends over Christmas break.  I get two fulls weeks plus Monday Jan 2 off from the rugrats at work.  Yay!!!!!!  I cannot wait to get scrappin again!

Two more big birthdays to celebrate today!!!!!!!

First up, my best friend SONJA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  aka Mamacita Sonjita :) She is the wonderful mother of Mariah and Angelina.  I have known Sony for about 15 years now, and boy have we been through a lot in that time! I am really lucky to have the group of best friends that I have.  I love this girl sooooo much and would do just about anything for her. I hope you have a good one, Mamacita!!

Sonjacollage

Today is also  Dana's birthday!!!! Dana is a total sweetheart and we always have fun when we visit the fam in Chicago. Her daughter is one of the cutest and funniest little girls I know! I hope you have a great birthday Dana!!!
