A few weeks ago when I blogged about Collections, I mentioned I collect Dichroic Glass Pendants.  I took a couple of pictures of some of my pieces to show you.  I have collected these for about six years now and I try to find a new piece whenever I travel.  Pieces have come from artists in Chicago, Las Vegas, Austin Tx and Boulder, Co as well as a number of artists who live in Minnesota.  A couple of these are also mass-produced pieces that were found at the Mall (I don’t like those nearly as much!)

I know that if I ever get on Etsy I will have approximately 189 of these pendants but since I do not spend money, I won’t even attempt myself by looking.  “The only problem with resisting temptation is you never know if you’ll get another chance”. Ha!

After dinner last night I noticed that my Australian Opal was missing from my favorite ring.  I remember seeing it at dinner but by the time we got home, it was gone.

I searched all over my house, but did not find the stone.  It could be anywhere.  Very sad, this was like my pseudo-engagement ring.  Oh Saint Anthony, please help me find it.

(Taken with crappy camera phone)

It’s embarrassing to admit I haven’t had a smartphone of some sort until now.  I’ve wanted one for a very long time but for various reasons, it hasn’t worked out.  I was waiting and waiting for the iPhone 5 and when they announced the 4s, I decided to wait until Christmas.  Then my brother Jeff recently upgraded to the iPhone 4s and said he’d give me his 4.  Score! I just got it two days ago.  An early Christmas present ;)

I am learning how to do a lot of things and have downloaded a few apps

  • Words with Friends. I am not very good at it (Kim is and she kicked my butt) but it is fun
  • Instagram.  Have yet to take or post any photos yet but I will experiment with it this weekend.
  • UrbanSpoon.  Totally cool “Nearby” feature…. tons of my food photos on there which is awesome to see ;)
  • Facebook.  So far I am not that big of a fan of Facebook on a Mobile device.  It is hard for me to navigate.  What I did like is how the albums on my TCRB Fanpage are displayed.
  • Foursquare.  Haven’t used this one yet but why not?
  • Twitter.  I hardly ever use twitter but I have a couple of accts including one for the TCRB.  Maybe I will look at it more now since it will be so convenient

What other apps should I try??

I did, I did it!! I blogged every single day in November.
Shizam!
It really wasn’t even that hard to do once I got into the swing of it.  I know a couple of my posts this past week shouldn’t really count because I forced myself to blog under duress, but I don’t really care!  I. blogged.every.single.day.for.a whole.month.  For the most part I have actually enjoyed getting back into blogging more.  Have you enjoyed reading them or are you guys sick of me yet?! lol  I don’t think I have posted enough photos lately, probably because I haven’t taken many.  I have come down with another cold so not only did I lose my voice for a day, I have been extremely stuffed up and not sleeping well.

You know who is extremely happy November is over? My brother Jeff (and even more so is his fiance, Amanda) was able to finally shave his mustache.  He alone raised over $500 for men’s health awareness and his team tripled that.  Way to go guys!

Alrighty, I gotta run but more than likely I will be back soon ;)

Things didn’t go as expected this morning as testing has been delayed due to reasons beyond my control.  I was not happy at all about it, to say the least.  I did spend five hours with kindergarten classes blah blah blah.

Sorry, not in the mood to blog but I have not yet missed a day for this stupid NaBloPoMo and I won’t give up now. haha

I’m not always Ms. Sunshine ya know ;)

I’ve got a few things to do around the house and then off to beddy-bye.

Good night, I promise I will wake up in a better mood manana.

Four days off of work!  Just what I needed before a very busy week at school.

It has been a boring, if not lame, Thanksgiving weekend.  I alone have had time off of work so I have been holding down the fort; cleaning, baking treats, reading, streamin’ Netflix, and hanging with friends.  I’ve left the house only once per day.  Boring, but relaxing ;)

Thanks for reading, have a great day ;)

11-11-11….. the coolest date ever that comes only once every 100 years.

Today would’ve been a great day to get married ;)

{On a beach in paradise at sunset }

Instead I am hanging out at work to finish up a 60-hour week of school and parent conferences.

I am exhausted and not feeling well.

It’s not looking like such a memorable date after all…..

Geez, I feel like the World’s Worst Blogger.  I can’t even remember what I last blogged about but I know I haven’t posted half of the things I did over the summer.  That’s just how it goes when you work 60-70+ hrs a week.  Not to mention I rarely take the time to even look at my own blog.

One of these days I will catch up, or at least try!

Until then, how about I post a photo I took at Navy Pier last month while on vacation in Chicago?

DSC_1913

I am nearly done with my Chicago video, I just need to find the right music.  I will post it as soon as I am finished (but don’t hold your breath!)

Hope everyone is doing well, I might be lurking on your blogs more than commenting for the time being, hope you understand!

Thanks for reading, have a great day ;)

I’ve had a lot of things I’ve wanted to blog about here, I just haven’t made the time to do it.

So what have I been up to for the past month?!

*Trip to Chicago.  I know I posted the Sade concert photos a few weeks ago but I haven’t posted any of the photos yet.  The reason why is because I haven’t looked through them yet! Well, that isn’t quite true.  I went through all the food photos I took while we were there and then I wrote mini-reviews of all the restaurants we visited (check them out!) Lou Malnati’s Pizza * Mitsuwa Japanese Marketplace * Casa Margarita * Portillo’s * Billy Goat Tavern * Maple Tree Family Restaurant * Irish Times Pub * Harry’s Sports Bar * Al’s Char House.  As soon as I can get to the photos and video I took I plan to make a video.  Stay tuned… I hope it happens!

* Two week-long workshops held at my Teacher’s Union.  One was on Foundations of Effective Teaching and the other was Managing Anti-Social Behavior. We get paid a stipend to take these workshops so attending has turned into one of my summer jobs.  Getting paid to learn? Sign me up!

* I read a TON of books.  Great reads, too.  The History of Love, The Shadow of the Wind, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, The Help and I am now finishing up The Hour I First Believed.  260+487+290+451+353= a whole lotta pages in one month!!

* Watched a few teeny-bopper TV shows on Netflix (The Hard Life of RJ Berger, Switched at Birth, Friday Night Lights)

* Went out to eat.  A LOT.  Met my bestie Mary at ZPizza in Roseville, Dinner at Santorini Taverna in Eden Prairie with Heidi, Burgers at Tin Cup’s and Matt’s Bar, more burgers at Scooter’s in Chisago City, Houlihan’s, Murasaki Japanese Steak  House and Sushi Bar.  And those are just the new restaurants that I haven’t previously reviewed!!!

*Hung out with Bradie and Heidi over at Bradie’s house.  It was great to sit on the patio and enjoy a glass of wine chatting with my girls.  I have known Bradie for 31-32 years (yes we were practically toddlers!) and Heidi for 16 years.  The two of them have known each other 25 years (they danced together at Larkin Dance Studio as young girls).  Later that night Heidi and I went out to Santorini Taverna for a really great dinner on the patio.

*My dear Noemy is in town from California.  Noemy is Denise’s BFF and I am very close to both of them.  I am so blessed to have Denise (and Darrell!) as next-door neighbors, love that I met Noemy through Denise.  Anyway, we have all gone out to eat a couple of times and hung out on many other occasions

*Visited the Minnesota State Fair.  This one deserves a post of its own….. the photos are still on my camera.

*Went back to work for the 2011-12 school year.  I taught summer school and got my new classroom all set up to come back a few weeks later to find that it had been dismantled to clean the carpets.  Tons of books, etc were taken off of book shelves and places all over randomly.  Not. Happy.  Oh well, it is looking ready for school next week ;)

*Attend a Coaches Training on Lego Robotics.  I will be coaching a team of 5-6th graders to program the robots and complete in Mission Challenges at regional tournaments.

* I am very excited about this upcoming school year.  I have big plans, i just hope I have the time and energy to execute it all!

So that is a brief summary, I hope to post photos and blog more details about many of the above if i ever get around to it ;)

Thanks for reading, have a great day ;)

Hello bloggy peeps,

I just wanted to say hi.

I have a ton to blog about, just short on time.  I have worked way too much this past week and will be back as soon as I can to give some updates :)

Thanks for reading, have a great day ;)

Some very weird things have been happening to me lately and I am beginning to wonder if I have a Black Hole surrounding me.

I know it seems impossible, but in the past few weeks I have had several items VANISH into what appears to be thin air.  Like GONE without a trace.  I will have something in my hand or close by and the next thing I know, it will be missing.  Each time this happens I will search my house high and low looking for whatever is missing, but to no avail.  Seriously. None of these things have turned up at a later time, either.  Insignificant things that no one else would want.

Want to know the weirdest thing that has happened to me? Last week I was at the grocery store picking up a few items for that night’s dinner.  Near the end of my excursion I stopped in the dairy section to get a carton of eggs.  I ALWAYS, always, always open a carton of eggs to inspect it before I buy.  Always.  I grabbed a carton of 18 eggs, inspected it (they were all there), made a couple quick stops then headed to the checkout within 5 minutes.  As the service woman was checking me out, she opens my carton of eggs to also inspect them only to discover one of the eggs was missing.   I looked at her in shock and told here there were 18 eggs in there 5 minutes earlier, that I had seen them all myself! The carton was still completely closed and there was no sign of the egg anywhere in my cart. WTF?! How did the carton open on its own, lose an egg and then close on its own again??!!!  I would swear that someone in that store was messing with me and stole my egg while I wasn’t looking but that seems extremely creepy and weird.  It is even more creepy and weird that it disappeared without an explanation.

Hopefully this Black Hole leaves me alone and my missing items turn up soon.  Minus the egg, of course.

I have been a “Big Sister” my whole life (since I was 2, anyway!). Brian was born just after I turned two and Jeff was born when I was four.  I think it is awesome that we are all close in age ;)

How do I feel about my baby brother turning 30? Makes me feel kinda old but I am also very proud.

Brian and I could tell a lot of embarrassing stories about Jeff but I wouldn’t want to embarrass him on his big birthday, would I? Sure I would…  but he would get me back and I am sure he has plenty of embarrassing stories to tell about me too ;)

I distinctly remember the day Jeff was born.  My Gram came to pick me up from school at Oak Hill Montessori and told me the big news, I had a new brother! I remember being slightly disappointed that the sister I had been wanting turned out to be a new brother but I was very excited to meet him.  He was pretty darn sweet so I guess we decided to keep him! Before visiting him at the hospital, my aunt Carol french-braided my hair and I wore my favorite periwinkle-colored dress.

Jeff was one of the cutest kids with his white-blonde curly Jeff-fro.

How cute is he?

I don’t have any pictures handy of Jeff as a teenager (I was away at college) but here are several posts/photos of different Family Gatherings that Jeff was likely a part of if you’d like to take a look back ;)

…… and now 30 years later he is a partner in a successful company, has traveled all over the world and is engaged to marry Amanda sometime next year.

Not bad for 30 years young :)

Happy Birthday Jeffrey, I am very proud of you.  I hope you have a very happy birthday!

ETA: Jeff blogged this morning about turning 30 so head on over to his blog and wish him a Happy Dirty Thirty! lol

Have you ever seen or heard of Cinemagraphs? They are basically still photographs that have bits of movement throughout the image. I don’t know who invented these but holy smokes….

Check these out:

How cool is that?

There is an article at Web Urbanist that explains it really well and has several examples to look at, such as the images shown above.  There is also a group devoted to Cinemagraphs on Flickr, you should check out the cool images.  These images are very complicated to make and time consuming, something I would love to learn how to do.  I am mesmerized by these images, this idea is so new to me that I need to do a lot more research about it.  Super cool!

My guy and I had originally planned to head up to the North Shore last weekend with a big group of friends but for obvious reasons we stayed home instead.  Since I was in town for the weekend,  I was able to meet up with some of my girlfriends on Sunday for lunch at CRAVE.  It was such a nice day out; sunny and warm.  Getting out and spending time with these ladies really helped to lift my spirits.

Not to mention my food was pretty awesome.  I had the Huevos Rancheros (made unlike any other I have tried).  I could eat this every weekend.

I have been blogging for 6 years (but have had a personal website for 11 years) and I might be a bit guilty of a few of these (highlighted in magenta)…..

1. You speak in code. (My guy HATES this!)

2. Your twitter account links to your blog, which links to your tumblr account which links to your flickr account. (Not exactly that order but connected between my blog, Facebook and Twitter)

3. You are surprised when someone asks how you are doing. Don’t they read your blog? Haha!

4. You’ve ever wrote a post titled “Things Every Blogger Should Know“.

5. You count introducing your boyfriend/girlfriend to your blog as a significant relationship milestone. (6 years of blogging and I still haven’t officially introduced him, nor will that ever happen.  Unlike me he is very private)

6. You know the difference between a tag and a category.

7. You’ve spent way too long thinking of the perfect word.  And have lost sleep when you didn’t find it. (Never struggled with a word but i struggle with titles all the time!)

8.  You are addicted to pinterestetsyheartsy (!), regretsy or dropbox.

9. Steve Jobs is your personal Jesus. (Once you go Mac you never go back)

10.  You would shank your grandmother for a book deal.

11. You have ever taken pictures of your food. Boy do I ever!!!

12. Your first thought when you get a picture taken with any large mascot is “Yes! This is going on the blog”. (I definitely have mascot pics on this blog! lol)

13. You followed @shitmydadsays before it became a television show.

14. You could perfectly replicate the header of your top 5 favourite blogs but struggle to remember your home address. (I doubt I could ever forget sweetsauer.com!)

15. You are signed up for this.

Original is here.

My heart is broken in a million little pieces and I am more sad than I have been on a very long time.

Yesterday morning we said goodbye to our little abyssinian, Pharaoh, who became sick over the weekend and went into a coma after complete organ failure (specifically liver and kidneys).  It was a rapid, unexpected decline that we were not prepared for.  We were with him when he died which is somewhat comforting, although it was devastating and horrible to watch.

It has been a very difficult couple of days with Pharaoh following a difficult couple of weeks dealing with both my Gramps and my other beloved kitty, Dusty, who were both on their death beds last week.  Never did I expect it to be Pharaoh that we would be saying goodbye to this soon.  He was only 8 years old.

I will be back with many fun and naughty stories and photos of this incredibly sweet, one-of-a-kind kitty when I can type about it without getting a flood of tears all over my computer.

There is a huge void in our home and a hole in our hearts as we mourn our loss.

I just can’t believe he isn’t around anymore, he was such a noticeable and vocal part of our household.  Everywhere we turn there are reminders of our sweet boy…..

Pharaoh, I hope you have found peace in Kitty Heaven.
We will forever miss you.

You were more than “just a cat”, you were our pride and joy.

Hockey is kind of a BFD around these parts, and they start them young!!!

Two of my friends from HS (Kelly and Peter) who came from hockey families have now started their own little hockey family and asked me to come over and get some shots of the boys skating on their backyard rink.  You may remember that I took photos of the boys last autumn as well.  These were taken some time in January but I am obviously just getting to posting them now……

So yes, I have been in a funk.

I was feeling slightly better after catching up on sleep and taking it easy this past weekend.

Then I get word Monday morning (yesterday) that my Gramps had another stroke (the first was a few months ago) and was in the Mayo in Scottsdale near where he lives.  There is nothing worse than that helpless feeling, and being far away from him and many of my family members.  After fearing the worst all day (it didn’t sound good) I was encouraged to hear that Gramps was conscious last night and was visiting with my aunt and Gram whom passed on his message that he loved all of us.

I am trying to be strong but the truth is that I am very sad.  I haven’t had to deal with death of those close to me very often. I can be an emotional wreck at times.

I have also been very sad lately because my cat Dusty, is also on his death bed.  He is 16 1/2 years old and has gone from 12lbs to just 6lbs in a matter of months.  He has a bad tooth and is now eating only soft foods.  I have to make sure it is all mushy before I feed him.  I swear he is hanging on just for me, he loves me that much.  There has never been a more loyal cat in the history of time.  Anyone who has seen me with Dusty can testify this is true.

Dumb as it must sound, I see a lot of parallels between Dusty and my Gramps.  I am already mourning the loss of both of them, premature as it may be.  Getting my mind set to let go when the time comes.

I really wish I were in Arizona right now.

Several other major disappointments lately have not helped to improve morale but I am hanging in there.  Shake it off and move forward.

Sorry for the Debbie Downer blog post

Thanks for any positivity that you can send my way!

Thanks for reading, have a great day ;)
