After a record long 2-3 months, I had to retire the last banner.  I figured I had neglected this blog long enough!  The beautiful panorama that I used in this new banner was taken by my brother Jeff.  He took a few panoramic shots while we were in Colorado and this one was my favorite.  The new profile pic was taken by my SIL Michelle.

I have been majorly blog-slacking lately because I have been working a lot and then relaxing when I can.  I go in streaks with my blogging and right now is a down-turn.  I'll be back to it soon enough if you miss me ;)

I have a few days off this upcoming week then its back full-time until October when I will have a 4-day weekend.  Time flies!

I have not yet gotten around to blogging about any of my Colorado Adventures, but thought I would share with you these cool videos that my dad made with a bunch of our photos…..I will be back at some point to post more about our trip in detail

We spent the first portion of our trip in Boulder for my cousin Katie’s wedding anniversary party.

Here we are for the second part of our trip, near Breckenridge

Details are now up for the next Photo Hunt Challenge!

On my last night in Austin, a big group of the people I worked with went out to dinner at Carlos Santana's restaurant, Maria Maria.  What a cool place!

My friend Chaitra also joined us for dinner, it was great to spend time with her while in Austin :)

And yes, I had to buy a cowgirl hat while in Texas :)

The time between last Friday evening and this morning (Monday) went so fast that its almost like I blinked and the time elapsed.  Half of that time was spent either on an airplane or waiting for an airplane….but it was all worth it because I got to take a quick trip home to Minnesota.  Its almost surreal that I was able to jump back into my normal life and then be transported back to Austin in less than 48 hrs.

While I was home on Saturday I was able to attend my niece Annika's birthday party.  I know there are a few of you who have been with me on my blogging journey since before Annika was born and its just so hard to believe how fast that time has gone.  Here are a few photos from the Birthday Princess's party….

Later on Saturday night I went to Saji-Ya on Grand Ave for some delicious sushi with a few of my favorite people!  This totally hit the spot….

I am still totally exhausted after finally getting to my hotel at 1:30am this morning and then getting to work by 7:30am, but it was totally worth it ;)

Many more Austin pictures and posts still to come!

I am not much of a drinker and I know very little about wine, yet I somehow ended up on a wine tasting tour early Saturday afternoon!  Betty and I met up with Samantha and her friend to try some of the local wine shops.  We really thought we were going to a vineyard and hoped to take photos, but instead we visited two shops and one actual winery.  Samantha and her friend are well-experienced wine drinkers and Betty and I are complete amateurs, which is fine because we had fun.  We first went to a place and tried six different wines (none of which tasted good or appealed to me or Betty!).

Next we went to Water 2 Wine, a local winery where you can make your own custom wine!  They import fruit juices from 13 different countries and you can literally make your own batch of wine, which is about 28 bottles.  You can custom name your wine and design your own labels, which could be a very cool gift for people who enjoy wine.  The owners of the shop are very knowledgeable and very nice, walking through the wine-making process and letting us try up to five different wines.  I tried five fruity wines and I liked each of them (Green Apple Riesling, Pomegranate Zinfindel, Exotic Fruits White Zinfindel, Wildberry Shiraz, and Blueberry Pinot Noir).  Here are me and Betty with the wines we liked the most.

I thought the wall of wines was really cool!

Here are several batches of wine that are in somewhere within the 45-day fermentation process

IMG_7968 IMG_7971

After the wine is fermented, it goes through a filtration process 2-3 times.  Once it has been filtered, it is bottled…..

……then corked

It was cool too see the process of making wine.  Too bad we don't have a place like this in MN, I have a few girlfriends (including my SIL Michelle) who would absolutely love this place!

Next we went to another wine shop, which Betty and I stayed at for about 5 minutes just to take some more photos…..

And that concludes my wine-tasting tour of Austin ;)

On Friday night a group of my coworkers (plus a few extras) and I went to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at the Alamo Drafthouse.  The Drafthouse is similar to a regular small theater but they serve food and drinks (beer & wine).  Each row of seats has a table running the length with space for the servers to sneak back & forth.  I thought the movie was pretty cool and loved that I could order food (a pizza for me but they also served grilled sandwiches and burgers, etc) and a beer while watching the movie.

My first visit to the Texas State Capitol was on Wednesday night when I went to see the bats.  Since the Capitol is less than a mile away, I decided to head over to get some photos of it.  The top of the dome was just catching the warm glow of the sun as it was starting to set….

I visited the Capitol again today and had a chance to go inside, so I will be posting those photos soon…..

I bet ya'll didn't know I was going to Texas, did ya?

Well, I didn't know either until last Thursday!  It wasn't until Thursday morning that the official call came offering me to come to Austin for 3 weeks to be an Assessor for the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards.  A paid position with all expenses paid? Count me in!  The perks are great but I am doing it for the professional opportunity.  I have always dreamed to be a National Board Certified Teacher, but the process is very lengthy (almost two years) and very difficult.  As an assessor I am part of a team of highly qualified teachers who are reviewing the portfolios of candidates in the area of Mathematics.  That is all I am at liberty to say, this is top-secret business, let me tell ya!  There are only 20 of us on this project and ten of them are local.  I am the youngest (by far) staying at the hotel, so it looks like I might be exploring this beautiful (and HOT!!) city all by my lonesome.  Don't worry- I will be very safe and always on the lookout ;)

Anyway, as you can imagine, finding out last-minute that I was going to be out of town for a month (3 weeks in TX, then a week in CO for a family vacation) involves a lot of scrambling around.  I have had a lot going on anyway…I have tons of photos from the past two weeks that I haven't even looked at yet, let alone edit or blog about.  It looks like I'll have plenty of time in the evenings to catch up.  I feel lonesome already.  I  brought movies and books along to keep me busy, and will be posting more of my favorites on the Photo Hunt Challenges blog this week.

Since this is my first Texas post, I thought I'd post the few photos I have taken so far.

Time to go find a bite to eat…….

Have you all checked out the new Photo Hunt Challenges site yet? I highly recommend it, even if you didn't participate in any of the Photo Hunts.  Inspiration is only a click away!

I have been off to a slow start posting My Favorites, but I am getting there.   I've posted my favorites for probably the first 8-9 items on the list so far.  I haven't felt very good this past week; first a cold and then the past few days I've had a bad headache that won't go away- probably my goofy sinuses.  I started the Photo Hunt Challenges blog initially as a way for me to learn and practice using a wordpress-installed blog.  It has been a learning experience but I am a quick-learner and I absolutely LOVE it!  I am considering moving both this blog and Twin Cities Restaurant Blog to a WordPress platform.  I only hesitate with the TCRB because there are so many permalinks with high rankings that I don't want to lose and I know it will be time-consuming.  At some point I will do it, though.  I have discovered that WordPress is WAY more technical than the user-friendly platforms of Blogger and Typepad but it is pretty awesome all the things you can do! I am learning how to tweak and customize and how to use plug-ins.  I wish I would've gone this route a long time ago, but only recently did my brother Jeff show me the light.  Anyway, I felt that the interest and popularity in the Sweetsauer Photo Hunts was getting big enough to warrant its own space on the Internet.  Hope you enjoy it.  A new challenge will be posted every-other month, the next one is August 1st running through the month of August.

So yeah, I have a ton of stuff to blog about and photos to edit & post, but I just haven't felt good enough to find the motivation.  Head over to check out the Photo Hunt Challenges and check that out in the meantime :)
